WEEKEND RUNAWAYS: THE LION KING

I wanted to write another weekend runaway, as this is the first weekend I felt like I really had to write about what I got up too, as I, well we, had such a wonderful day the other Sunday.

For Mitch’s birthday I decided to get us tickets to see the Lion King. I’m sucker for ‘making memories’ rather than buying gifts and since t had been FOREVER since either of us had been to the theatre I thought it would be a lovely day out. I saw the Lion King with my grandparents when I was younger (it was a tradition for them to take us and even when my grandpa passed away my grandma still took the other littlens) and all I could remember was that it was one of the most amazing, electrifying things I have ever seen. Everyone (well most) know the story of the Lion King and the songs that go with it. So, as an adult, it felt so nostalgic to be watching something so prominent in my childhood and brought back wonderful memories of watching it as a kid with my grandparents.

The theatre isn’t a cheap day out and tickets can get very pricey if you want decent seats (i.e in the middle with a clear view on at the front). I opted for a good clear view in the Royal Circle which is basically in the middle. Luckily we had a great view and had no one ridiculously tall sitting in front of us. I paid £65 each for tickets - but they are more than worth it.

Unfortunately, as cameras are not permitted in the theatre I couldn’t take any photos of my own, but I have linked below to the Disney website where you can see professional photographs and also buy tickets (I booked with Disney, as I know they are a trusted website and they actually had the best seats and prices available out of all the websites I looked on). It’s 100% worth booking through a website you trust though, even if it does mean paying a little bit extra.

I would also recommend bringing your own snacks and drink. We did have a drink at the Royal Circle bar, but this came to £15 for a prosecco and a cider! However, we brought our own chocolate and sweets with us to enjoy a bit of munch throughout the show.

So now onto what I wore. I wanted to be comfy (the show is 2.5 hours long including an interval) but of course going to the theatre I wanted to look nice. So, I opted for an old outfit that I have had for a while - my paisley print jumpsuit. I normally wear this in the summer, but since it was a still a beaut day, I just popped some tights on and roll neck underneath and I had changed a very summery outfit into something autumnal. I really like playing around with some of my old clothes and piecing them together with different things. It changes the whole look and no money is spent!

With this I wore my red Dior boots, teddy bear fur coat and baker boy cap. I have linked all the details to my outfit below.

Teddy bear fur coat: Topshop
Baker boy hat: River Island
Roll neck: M&S

I have been to the theatre quite a few times over the years and although having seen it on Broadway in NY, we are desperate to see Matilda in London. Can anyone recommend any other shows I should go and see?

Thanks for reading,
Jess x
