Outfit Review: I call it the 'little blue bird' dress
Before I begin this outfit review, I just want to say that Missguided is one outlet that never seems to disappoint - whether it be in store or online (with the exception of Black Friday when everything I wanted was sold out in my size). It is always my first port of call when I want a new outfit, a coat, dress, a two piece, you name it, they have it. Not only do they keep up with some of the hottest trends, they in fact create a lot of them. Which is why they are my one stop shop! Whenever I am visiting Westfield Stratford or Bluewater Shopping Centre I will 99% of the time purchase at least one item from the store. I even check the website on a weekly basis.
Anyway, let’s get to the review, and this is one outfit that really backs my point of Missguided being truly fabulous. A couple of weekends I took a family girls trip to Bluewater to start some Christmas shopping, but - I’m sure a lot of people are guilty of this - I ended up buying for myself and no else (bad habit). For once I told myself I was going to be sensible and outfit recycle for an event I had last weekend, but with the full forces of Missguided pulling me in, I was tempted by this beautiful dress. I will tell you the main reason I brought this dress - my Mum LOVED it. Well and the fact it had a 30% discount (purchased for only £28 down from £40). Now, as much as my mum snears her nose up at some of fashion choices and I try to ignore her, her opinion does matter the most to me. She is my biggest critic and biggest supporter (in all walks of life). We stumbled across this beatiful dress, navy, feathery and velvet - three things I don't often wear on their own, let alone together. Of course, as always, I had to try it on. And just to add, aren't Missguided changing rooms are amazing for selfies!?The lighting, the white background, they were made for those of us who love posting on the gram.
I really loved the fit of the dress. A lot of outfits I wear are very clingy and fit to the curves of the body, I mean sometimes even the wrong curves. But this dress was fairly loose fitting, but still gave that look for being a bodycon type outit - perfect for a dinner event. I was a little apprehensive about the feathers, you know with food and all, as even just standing in the changing rooms a few feathers fell to the ground, but I was surprised that no blue feathers landed in my beef dinner AT ALL. Firmly stuck on that dress!
As I said I loved the velvet and soft feather combo. The velvet is quite a classy and sophisticated material (if worn the right way obviously) and the feathers give it that real glam edge. I was also utterly surprised at how comfortable it was. As you get older, you tend to gravitate more towards the comfort in clothes, so this is just the most perfect outfit for those who really want to dress up, but stay comfortable at the same time. I must say that I don't wear navy a lot. Sometimes I see it as a bit of a difficult colour, its not black so can't quite go with everything and its not a vibrant blue or that soft and sutble baby blue, so in my opinion it isn't always seen as quite quirky enough. But going for that sort of 'lady' look and not wanting to purchase yet another black outfit, I thought I would give navy a go. My mum did tell me that black can be boring and I couldn't agree more on this occasion! Although kind of contradicting myself, as I did wear with a pair of black tie up heels and accessorise with a black fur clutch. If you want to purchase this dress or these heels, see the links below. The clutch is from Primark (purchased around a year ago), but similar styles can be found in store.
Dress: Missguided (currently out of stock)
Heels: Public Desire (black out of stock, but have other colours)
