Weekend Runaways: Leeds Castle

So, I mentioned in one of my previous insta posts that I was going to write a series of blogs called ‘weekend runaways’ talking about some of the fun little things I get up to at the weekends. A few weekends ago I visited Leeds Castle in Kent. This was literally right on Mitch’s doorstep, so I was surprised we hadn’t been before then. But as a family, we decided to swap our lunching, lazy Sundays for a three mile walk around the grounds of Leeds Castle and in the castle itself.

If you’ve never visited before, I’m going to give a little break down of where Leeds Castle is, entry costs and what there is to do there.

Where

Leeds Castle is based just off junction 8 of the M20 (if your travelling by car). I have hyperlinked the address with a google map which pinpoints the location and can also give directions and distance of travel. They also have a section on their website called 'getting to Leeds Castle.' Even if this means a fairly long journey, I would still definitely recommend the trip – it is a worthwhile day out (not forgetting to mention you can actually stay on the grounds in one of their quaint little cottages).

Cost

In my opinion I would say the only downside to Leeds Castle is their cost structure. They charge a yearly fee for each person, as opposed to a one-off entry payment. This is £24 each and entitles you to an annual entry, so each time you visit after the first you don’t have to pay – which is great if you either live locally, or you know you will make that trip at least a couple of times a year. However, if you’re a one-off visitor then this can be quite hefty, especially for a family. We were lucky enough to receive free entry tickets from Mitch’s mum’s friend (who works at the castle), so could more or less enjoy a free or cheap day out! On top of this, you have to take into consideration the price of food and drink, unless you’re ultra-prepared and take a picnic.

What to do

What to eat

There are a wide variety of cafes and food stands as you make your way around the grounds. You can also head into the restaurant for a nice sit-down meal. We eyed up all the people eating their Sunday roasts lol.

Would I recommend to a friend?

I most certainly would recommend. If you’d like a change from a regular Sunday or rest, lunch, cinema or shopping, this is perfect day out. You get to see a little part of history, look and walk around beautiful grounds and just take in some fresh air with a bit of exercise.

I have previously linked to the website above but see again for links and some trusty Trip Advisor reviews (4 and half stars)!

Thanks,
